Søndag d. 2. april var jeg på tur til Thy i Volvoen.
Første stop var Thisted, hvor jeg gik en tur på havnen:

Tour to Aalborg
D. 10. juni var jeg i Ålborg med Chevy. Amerikanerbilklubben i Ålborg, American Wheels, holdt træf i week-end´en 9. - 11. juni.
Det var en skyfri dag, ingen vind af betydning og 25 grader i skyggen. Bedre træfvejr kan man ikke tænke sig. Og selv de mest vejrfølsomme, forkromede skønheders ejere havde ingen gangbare argumenter for at blive hjemme.
Det blev til en herlig lørdag i gamle venners lag, og nye bekendskaber stiftedes, sådan som det nu er reglen ved amerikanerbiltræf.
Jeg tog en masse billeder af de fotogene V8´ere, og her viser jeg nogle få udvalgte, som man kun sjældent ser til træffene.
Læg også mærke til den 100 % skyfri himmel. Det er sådan, vi gerne vil have det, hver gang der er træf for amerikanerbiler.
On june 10. I was in Aalborg in my Chevy. The american car club in Aalborg, called American Wheels, had a meeting from june 9. to 11.
There was not a cloud in the sky ,no wind, and 25 degrees C. in the shaddow. You couldn´t wish for better weather at a meeting. Even the owners of the most weather sensitive cromium-plated beauties had no excuse for staying at home this week-end. I had a delightful saturday in the compagny of old friends, and new friendships were founded, as it usually is the case at american car meetings. I took a lot of pics of the photogenic V8s, and here I show some of those, you seldom see at meetings. Notice the 100% cloudless sky. That´s the way, it should be at all meetings.







Sådan et træf er himmelen på Jorden for mig.
Kl. 20.30 vendte jeg snuden mod syd og trillede veltilfreds, træt og godt og vel solbrændt mod Sunds igen. Sommeraftenen var lun, sideruden nedrullet, albuen ude i fartvinden, V8´eren buldrede - og så var der oven i købet billig benzin i Viborg.
Se - det er at leve.
Such a meeting is heaven on earth for me.
8.30 p.m. I cruised home again, content, tired and sunburned. It was a hot summer night, window wide open and the left elbow in the wind, roaring V8 - and even gasoline on special offer in Viborg.
Indeed - that´s living.
Tur til Ribe
Touring Ribe
D. 2. juli gik turen til Ribe
sammen med Mie og Gorm i deres Mondeo.
July 2. I went to Ribe in south eastern Jutland together with my sister, Mie, and her husbond, Gorm, in their Ford Mondeo.
Efter en tur rundt i Ribes gamle bydel og et besøg i Ribe Domkirke slog vi et smut ned over grænsen, når vi nu alligevel var så tæt på.
På hjemturen spiste vi den medbragte mad på en rasteplads i det sønderjyske.
Dagen udmærkede sig også ved, at vejret var kanongodt. Temperaturen sneg sig op på ca. 30 grader.
Ribe is the oldest city in Denmark. The vikings founded the city about 700 a.c. We went for a walk in the old centre of Ribe, before we visited Ribe Cathedral. Then we went across the border to Germany, now that we were so far to the south anyway. On the tour back home, we had picnic in the free. The weather was extremely fine. Light cloudly and about 30 degrees C.
Det var en perfekt dag til at bestige Ribe Domkirkes tårn. Sigtbarheden var meget lang denne smukke sommerdag. Vi kunne se helt til Esbjerg fra tårnets top.
Gorm skulle selvfølgelig teste, hvor hurtigt han kunne komme ned fra tårnet igen, dog uden at vælge det frie fald. På mirakuløs vis kom han ned med kun mindre skrammer, og så var hans dag reddet. Vi andre tog det med ro ned af de på visse steder meget stejle trapper.
It was a perfect day to climb the tower of Ribe Cathedral. The sight was very clear this beautiful summer day. In the distance we could even see Esbjerg some 30 km. away.
Of cause Gorm had to test, how fast he could come down from the tower again, without choosing the free fall. Miraculously, he did it with only minor bruises, and that made his day. My sister and I descended more dignified, as some of the stairs were very steep.


Ribe Domkirke emmer af historie. Man føler sig hensat til den tidlige middelalder, når man går rundt og kigger på de tykke mure og interiøret, der bl.a. byder på træskærerarbejde af fremragende kvalitet.
Ribe Cathedral exudes with history. You feel, you are back in the Middle Age, when you look at the thick walls and the interior, which includes wood carving of outstanding quality.



Udsigt mod nordvest. Man kan se ud til vadehavet og endda skimte Esbjerg i det fjerne.
Trods ca. 30 graders varme var der ingen varmedis denne dag.

Tur til Randers
Tour to Randers
D. 5. september tog Mie og jeg på tur til Randers i Chevy.
Turen startede med, at jeg hentede Mie i Hammerum ved 10-tiden om formiddagen. Vi kørte via Silkeborg til Randers, gennem noget af Danmarks smukkeste natur.
Første mission i Randers var, at jeg afleverede 4 piber til reparation i Danmarks ældste, eksisterende pibe- og tobaksforretning, FF Tobak & Vin i Adelgade i Randers gamle midtby. Her købte jeg mig fattig i rene pibetobakker, Latakia, Perique og Kentucky. Nu vil jeg så til at blande mine egne mixtures.
Derefter kørte vi de få hundrede meter hen til Randers Regnskov. Det var godt nok dumt gjort, for jeg blev plukket godt og grundigt for at parkere på deres p-plads. 1 kr. pr. 9 minutter kostede det. Most shocking! Den medbragte mad blev fortæret her, Mie havde smurt madpakken. Uhmmm. Og så gik vi ellers på fotosafari i Sydamerika, Afrika og Asien.
On September 5. the tour went to Randers in my Chevy. My sister, Mie, joined me. I picked up Mie at 10 a.m. We drove via Silkeborg to Randers on the east coast of Jutland. This tour goes through some of the most beautiful nature in Denmark. The first mission in Randers was to hand in 4 pipes for repair to the oldest, existing pipe- and tobacco shop in Denmark, called FF Pipes, situated in the centre of Randers. Here I bought a lot of Latakia, Perique and Kantucky tobaccos. I have started to mix my own blends, so I needed some basic tobaccos. Afterwards we drove the few hundred meters to Randers Rain Forest. Before we went in, we had a picnic, so we were well fattened for our photo safari in South America, Africa and Asia.

Disse meget store fisk var også meget nysgerrige. Nå, de troede nok bare, at vi kom med mad til dem, for billedet er taget lige før fodringstid.

Den lille hulepindsvinefisk med de meget store øjne minder mig om en Gremlin.

Søkøerne var et helt kapitel for sig. Vi var så heldige, at det netop var fodringstid, da vi kiggede forbi. De to buttede og godmodige dyr blev håndfodrede; lidt af en opgave, for de spiser 40 kg. grønt og frugt om dagen. Hver!!! The sea cows were a chapter on their own. We were lucky to be there, when it was their feeding time. These tubby and good-natured animals were fed by hand; quite an achievement, as every one of them eats 40 kg. og vegetables and fruit - every day!
De har en helt utrolig teknik, når de spiser peberfrugter. Frugten spises, mens stilken på intet tidspunkt kommer ind i munden. Og så helt uden hænder. They have an incredible tecnic, when they eat capsicums. They eat the fruit, without the stalk ever comes into their mouths. And they do that handfree.
Mie tog disse fine billeder af to araer og denne abeskønne fyr. Mie took these pics of two aras and this good-looking fellow.

I trætophøjde fik vi øje på denne missekat, som dog nægtede at vise sig fra sin bedste side. In treetop level we caught sight of this pussycat, that refused to show itself from its best side.

To kønne planter i det afrikanske slangehus.
Vi kunne kun få øje på to slanger, så da Mie fandt ud af, at der var 18 løskravlende slanger i huset, sprang sveden frem på hele hendes krop (det var nu også meget varmt og meget fugtigt i slangehuset). Til hendes ros skal det siges, at hun ikke panikkede, men det var tæt på, da en vanddråbe faldt på hendes skulder. Hun lettede en halv meter fra jorden, overbevist om, at en slange havde udset sig hende til middagsmad. Hun var da vist også dejlig mør, for det var knageme godt vejr inde hos krybet.

We could only find two snakes, so, when Mie learned, that there should be 18 snakes loose in the house, the cold sweat broke on her entire body (well, it was indeed very warm and very moist in the reptile house).To her credit it has to be said, that she didn´t panic, but nearly, when a drop of water fell on her shoulder. She took of from the ground, 20 inches or so, convinced that a snake had picked her for dinner. Well, she sure was boiled till tender, because it was steaming hot in here by the creepy-crawly.
Albino pytonen er 4 meter lang og vejer 50 kg. Mie synes, den er ekstrem ulækker, men hun må nu have været noget fascineret af krybet, for hun var ikke til at drive videre. Jeg synes, at kræet er nuttet. Døm selv:
This albino python is 4 meters long and weighs 50 kg. Mie thought, it was extremely yukky, but anyway, she must have been fascinated by the creeping thing, as she couldn´t be dragged away from it. I think the creature is cute. Judge for yourself:


Skinnet bedrager.
Pytonen er en kvælerslange - og altså aldeles ugiftig trods sit udseende.
Helt anderledes forholder det sig med de små fyre ovenfor. Pilegiftfrøerne er verdens mest giftige dyr. De er MEGET små. På billedet er de ca. 1 meter fra kameraet, og optaget med 2 X Zoom.
Appearances are deceptive.
The python is a boa constrictor - and not at all poisonous in spite of its appearance. Quite different from the python is it with the little fellows above. The poisonous arrow frogs are the most poisonous animals on the Earth. They are very petite. In the picture they are less than 1 meter from the camera, and the pic was shot with 2 X Zoom.

Kl. 15 slap parkometerpengene op, og så var det ellers om at komme afsted, inden turen blev 525 kr. dyrere.
Hjemturen gik over Århus, og kl. 16.30 var vi igen i Hammerum.
Behøver jeg at nævne, at Chevy som sædvanligt kørte som en drøm.
At 3 p.m. there was no more money in the parking meter, so we hurried to get away, before the tour became 525 kr. more expensive. The tour home went through Aarhus (Denmark´s 2. biggest city) and at 4.30 p.m. we were back, where we started. Do I have to mention, that Chevy ran like a dream - as usual.
Garage cruisin´ 2006
Hvert år afslutter Herning Custom Car Club sæsonen med en cruisin´, hvor der køres rundt i Herning området. På turen besøges nogle af klubbens medlemmer, der således får mulighed for at vise, hvad de har gang i.
I år afvikledes denne cruisin´ den 7. oktober, der også var dagen, hvor den nye motorvej øst om Herning blev åbnet.
Vi mødtes i klubbens lokaler på Teglvænget kl. 12. Vejret var blæsende og med hyppige byger, hvoraf nogle var ret kraftige. En enkelt forsøgte at gennemføre cruisin´en i sin Convertible med taget nede - men han kom hurtigt på andre tanker.
Første etape gik til Gjødstrup, hvor vi kiggede på en Cadillac fra 60´erne, der trængte til en kærlig hånd.
De første to billeder tog jeg på gårdspladsen på den nedlagte gård i Gjødstrup.
Herning Custom Car Club closes every season with a cruisin´ in and around the Herning area. On the tour we visit some members, who are given the possibility to show us, what is going on in their garages. This year the cruisin´ was held on October 7., which happened to be the same day the new superhighway east of Herning was officially opened. We met in HCCC´s premises at 12 noon. The weather was squally with heavy showers. One member tried to carry through with the roof down in his convertible - but he soon changed his mind. First leg went to Gjoedstrup, where we looked at a Cadillac from the -60th. that needed a caring hand. I took the first two pics in the yard of the abandonned farm in Gjoedstrup.

Da vi kørte fra Gjødstrup punkterede Pers 1941 Buick på højre baghjul. Nå, men på med reservehjulet - og så videre. As we went on from Gjoedstrup, Per flattened the right rear tire on his 1941 Buick.

Turen gik nu videre til Rønneallé i Sunds, hvor vi sparkede dæk på en Harley Davidson - og Pers Buick viste sig at være punkteret på reservehjulet. Der sad en skrue i dækket, sgu. Af med skruen - i med en større skrue, og så var den punktering fixet.
The cruisin´ went on to Sunds, where we kicked tires on a Harley Davidson - and Per´s Buick turned out to be flattened on the spare tire, he shifted to in Gjoedstrup. There was a screw in the tire, by all means. Well, out with that screw - and in with a bigger screw, and that fixed that flat tire.
Fra Sunds kørte vi videre til
Nabkær og besøgte min kolonihave. På denne del af cruisin´en fik vi lejlighed
til at tage det nye stykke motorvej øst om Herning i brug. Den havde været åbnet
for trafik i halvanden time, da vores kortege rullede ud på den.
Jeg havde lånt fælleshuset, og det viste sig at være nyttigt. Der kom en gevaldig regnbyge kort tid efter, at vi ankom til haveforeningen.
From Sunds we went on to visit my allotment in Nabkaer. In this part of the cruise, we had the chance to drive on the new piece of superhighway east of Herning. It had been open for traffic for 1½ hour, when our convoy entered it.
I had borrowed our common house this day, and that came useful shortly after we arrived. A heavy shower hurried everybody inside.
Jeg flagede ved fælleshuset i anledning af besøget. Hvilken idyl. I flew the danish flag (called Dannebrog) in occation of this visit. A perfect idyll.


Da regnbygen var drevet forbi, inspicerede banden min have. Der var enighed om, at mine vindruer smagte supergodt.
When the heavy skower had passed, the members inspected my garden. Everybody agreed, that my grapes were delicious.

Aldrig før har der været så mange mennesker i min have på én gang. På et tidspunkt kom der igen en byge, og da var vi 12 mennesker inde i mit lille kolonihavehus på 9 m2.
En kolonihave i oktober kan være en kold og fugtig oplevelse, men det var nu hyggeligt med så mange mennesker i haven.
Fra Nabkær kørte vi med motorvejen ud til SAS Arena og Messecenter Herning. Herfra videre til klubben på Teglvænget, hvor Per viste os sit værksted, hvor han og hans hjælpere skruede den topfuel dragster sammen, som han vandt Europa mesterskabet med i år. Her følger lidt facts om dytten:

Per kørte nænsomt Buick´en ind i værkstedet. Den skulle jo helst ikke stå ude og ruste.
Never before have so many visited my garden at one time. Suddenly came another shower, and then 12 people crowded in my tiny allotment house, which is only 9 m2.
A garden can be a cold and moist experience in October, but it was cosy with so many people in it.
From Nabkaer we cruised the superhihgway to Herning SAS Arena and Herning Exhibition Center. From here further on to HCCC´s premises. Per, who owns the club´s buildings, showed us his garage, where he and his crew made the topfuel dragster, that won the European Championship this year. Here´s some facts about the vehicle:

Per gently drove his Buick into the garage. It should rather not be parked outside and get rusty.

Pers Buick Eight fra 1941 har en 8 cyl. rækkemotor. Bortset fra et par punkteringer klarede den cruisin´en fint. Per´s 1941 Buick Eight has a straight 8 under the hood. Apart from a couple of flat tires, it made the cruise beautifully.
Og her sluttede så vores sæsonafslutnings cruise. Vejret var ikke helt med os, men bortset fra det, var det en rigtig god oplevelse.
This concluded our End Of Season Cruisin´. The weather was not the best, but except for that, it was an eventful October´s day.
Brugtbilmesse og stumpemarked i Fredericia
Second-hand car and spare part fair i Fredericia.
Den 21. oktober gik turen til bilmesse og stumpemarked i Fredericia. Vi var i alt 12 personer, der fulgtes ad, så vi kørte i kortege i 5 biler fra mødestedet ved motorvejsfrakørsel Ikast Øst til messecenteret i Fredericia. Jeg kørte i min Volvo, for vejret var ikke til Chevrolet-kørsel. Regnbygerne var nemlig hyppige og kraftige. Bilmessen i Fredericia er kendetegnet ved det store antal klassiske- og veteranbiler, der altid er til salg her. Det er allertiders mulighed for at komme på klods hold af sjældenheder, som man ellers kun ser på billeder. Jeg havde husket at tage kameraet med (surprise), men desværre var lysforholdene ikke gode til fotografering med digitalkamera, hverken med eller uden blitz, så efter hjemkomsten har jeg måttet kassere mange billeder, fordi de var blevet for mørke. Nogle anvendelige skud blev det da til, og det første billede, jeg vil vise, er af en Alfa Romeo Guiletta Sprint Speziale:
On October 21. I went to Fredericia on the east coast of Jutland together with other members of HCCC. We were 12 people altogether on this tour, and we drowe in 5 cars from the meeting point by the superhighway exit at Ikast East to the Exhibition Center i Fredericia. I drove my Volvo, ´cause the weather was not suitable for a Chevy. The rain showers were numerous and heavy. The fair in Fredericia is characterized by the large number of classic and vintage cars, that are for sale here. It´s a great opportunity to get close to rarities, you usually sees in pictures only. I had remembered my camera (surprise!), but unfortunately the light was low for photographing with a didital camera, with or without flash, so when I came home from the fair, I had to throw away a lot of pics, because they were to dark to improve on. A few usable shots remained, and the first pic, I will show you is of an Alfa Romeo Guilette Sprint Speziale:

Formgivningsmæssig er den nærmest en mellemting mellem en Jaguar E-type og en Mercedes Sølvpil.
By design it is fairly something between the Jaguar E-type and the Mercedes Silver Arrow.

Blandt kuriositeterne var denne Morgan Three-Weeler med en to-cylindret motor på knapt 1000 cc. Den yder formidalbe 46 hk:

Denne Jaguar XK 120 er en klassiker. Der var to af dem på messen, og denne var den mest velholdte:

Nu vi er ved Jaguar, vil jeg da også lige vise denne Jaguar D-type.

Gangsterbilen over alle gangsterbiler er denne Citroën Traction Avant 06 Elegance, som kan køre 130 km/t. Godt gået af en forhjulstrækker fra 30´erne.
Gangster car above all gangster cars is this Citroën Traction Avant 06 Elegance, which does 130 km/h. Well done by a front wheel driver from the -30th.

Fransk luksus er også denne Facel Vega Excellence, i højeste potens endda. Den har en skøn V8´er, der lyder fabelagtig godt.
French luxury is made come alive in this Fazel Vega Excellence, even to the highest degree. It has a wonderful V8, that sounds fabulous.

Desværre blev billedet alt for mørkt, så jeg har redigeret det, så man kan se, hvor smuk dette franske muskelbundt er.
Sadly, the pic came out very dark, so I have improved it to the best of my ability, so you can enjoy this french muscle car.
Sjovt nok var den bil, jeg fandt allermest interessant ikke engang med på bilmessen. Den stod ude på parkeringspladsen. En Tatra V8 med luftkølet hækmotor. Det var partibossernes foretrukne køretøj i kommunisttidens Østeuropa. Mens en tjekkisk arbejder måtte vente 10 - 15 år på at få leveret en Skoda 1000 MB, en af de elendigste biler, Skoda nogensinde har fremstillet, selv om han havde sparepenge nok til den, så kunne partipamperne suse gennem de næsten billøse bygader - med politibeskyttelse - i de parti-ejede Tatraer. Joh - i de kommunistiske lande var alle mennesker lige. Nogle var bare mere lige end andre.
Denne Tatra er en model T613-3 med en luftkølet 3,5 l. V8 med 4 overliggende knastaksler. Motoren er placeret over bagakslen, hvilket betyder, at bilen har udmærkede køreegenskaber.
Funny enough was the car on the fair, that I found most interesting not even in the exhibition. It was parked outside. It´s a Tatra V8 with air-cooled rear engine. it was the preferred car of the communist bosses in Eastern Europe. While a czech worker had to wait 10 - 15 years for delivery of a Skoda 1000 MB (one of the worst ever cars, Skoda has made), even though he had saved enough money for the buy, the communist bosses could race through almost empty streets in the cities - with a police escort - in these Tatras, that were owned by the communist parties. Well, everybody was equal in those good old communist days. Some were just more equal than others.
This Tatra i a model T613-3 with an air-cooled, 3,5 litre V8 engine with 4 overhead cams. It is rear engined, and the engine is placed over the rear axle, which means that the car has very good driving properties.

Til sidst vil jeg vise et billede af et par amerikanerbiler (det skulle jo komme), der holdt side om side på parkeringspladsen. Der er tale om en Plymouth Fury (til venstre) og en Pontiac Bonneville. De klæ´r da hinanden, de to.
Finally I will show you two american beauties (well, it had to come), side by side in the parking area. It is a Plymouth Fury (to the left) and a Pontiac Bonneville. They suit each other, those two.

Efter at have travet rundt på messen i 3 timer, var jeg godt slidt i bentøjet og i ryggen, så jeg vendte næsen vestover, alene. Vejret var ikke blevet bedre i mellemtiden, men hva´ pokker, der skulle da ikke skrabes is af ruderne, inden jeg kunne køre/sejle hjem.
After having walked and walked for three hours, I was badly used in my legs and back, so I started the tour home on my own. The weather hadn´t improved in the meantime, but what the heck, I didn´t have to clear the windscreen for ice, before I could see to drive/sail home.
